Let’s face it, in order to lose body fat, we must be willing to work. We did not gain weight over night. Excess body fat is accumulated through the consumption of excess calories and fat. People have been taught to believe that the only thing that matters is fat consumption. Calories are important when considering body fat.

Even if you choose a low fat, or no fat diet, you may gain weight and body fat. A no fat diet is very unhealthy by the way, for anyone. The human body requires a certain amount of healthy fat, in order to function properly.

If you only eat “fat free” foods, but you do eat sugar, you may as well skip the no fat route. The fact is that anyone who eats excess sugar is creating fat. Natural fat that is found for example, in avocados or nuts, is much better for you than sugar. Also, more than a few “fat free” foods contain more sugar than one might imagine.

The only way to lose body fat, is to stop feeding it. Counting calories may sound old fashioned, but it does work, and there is a serious physical reason for this. Remember high school health class? Everything that we eat is used for energy right? What happens to the extra “energy”? It is stored in the body as fat. Food is fuel for the body. Extra fuel is stored for later use. This fuel is called fat. If you want to lose body fat, you absolutely must watch what you eat, count those calories, and exercise.

In a nut shell, decreasing calories, lowers the amount of stored fuel. Exercise burns extra fuel. If you want to lose body fat, start anywhere.
