Running To Lose Weight is one of the most effective ways to get your body in shape. It burns a ton of calories even when done for a shorter length of time, and tones and strengthens the lower body. With the right training program, anyone can start running and turn their health around.
When you first start out, don’t expect to hit the track for a five mile run. Unless you are already in shape and your body is used to regular exercise, you will set yourself up for injuries and eventual burn-out if you go too hard too fast.
The best way to start running is to use interval training. This simply means you mix short bursts of running with walking. Depending on your current physical condition, you may want to start off with just walking. Once you get into a regular routine of walking and can walk at least a half hour straight, you can start adding in short periods of timed running.
One note here: you do not have to run fast and super hard during these bursts. You aren’t trying to go any particular distance during these running periods. You are simply building up your ability to run for longer lengths of time.
Save increasing your time or covering a certain number of miles in a particular time frame for later goals. Once you become a more comfortable runner you can worry about that. Right now you just want to build up your ability to run for longer periods of time.
A good starting point for someone with a low level of cardiovascular health is thirty seconds of running and ninety seconds of walking. Do this for at least twenty minutes along with a five to ten minute walking warm up and cool down. Gradually increase the length of time for the running intervals until you can comfortably run a half hour. Then, you can build from there.
An exercise diary such as The Workout Log is a great tool to record your exercise goals and also how much calories were burnt on that particular day.It can also help you identify which exercise workouts are working for you to help you in your weight loss goals.
Running to lose weight is something literally anyone can do. It may be uncomfortable at first, but with consistent workouts you will gradually see changes in what you can endure. Eventually, it will even be an enjoyable exercise that allows you to relax and escape the stress of your everyday life.
